RISK ASSESSMENT AND MITIGATION OF ABOVEGROUND STORAGE TANKS
CERISE core members developed risk assessment models for the Houston Ship Channel. Predictive tools are developed for probabilistic assessment of aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) subjected to multiple hazards such as wind, surge, wave, and rainfall during storm and hurricane events. These tools leverage a combination of advanced numerical modeling, validation with experimental and empirical data, application of probabilistic methods and machine learning techniques. The developed fragility models have been employed for hurricane risk assessment of ASTs located in Houston Ship Channel to reveal potential damage or spill risks and to evaluate alternative risk mitigation strategies.
